Maid Police Verification in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru: A City-by-City Guide

    By Team fraudcheck.ai • 7 min read • 26 Oct 2026

How maid police verification works in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru: the form or portal each city uses, documents to keep ready, and what to check meanwhile.

A neighbour's maid knows someone who can start tomorrow. She seems kind, the children like her, and you are tired of managing alone. Most families in this spot agree to "do the police verification later", and later never comes. This guide is about that one step: how domestic help verification actually works in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, what each city asks for, and what to check yourself while the police process runs.

If you want the full hiring checklist (finding help, fair terms, early warning signs), read our guide Hiring a Maid, Cook or Nanny in India: A Safe Hiring Checklist. This post goes deeper on verification.

    The short version

    • Police verification of domestic help is run by city police, and each city has its own form or portal.
    • Delhi: Delhi Police lists Domestic Help/Tenant Registration among its citizen services and publishes a Domestic Help Verification Form you can download and submit.
    • Mumbai: Mumbai Police has an online Domestic Servant form where employers share the worker's details, native address and previous employment.
    • Bengaluru: Karnataka State Police offers a "Police Verification Certificate for Domestic Servants / House Keeping" through the Seva Sindhu portal.
    • Verification takes time. Use those days to call references, confirm her native address and check public court records.
    • Police verification and an online background check do different jobs. Do both.

    Why police verification still matters

Police verification puts the worker's details on record with the local police station, and in some cities produces a certificate. It is the only check that involves the police themselves. A private background check cannot replace it, and nothing in this guide is a reason to skip it.

What it does not do is give you an answer on day one. That gap is where most families make the hiring decision anyway, so plan for both.

    Delhi: Domestic Help Verification Form

Delhi Police lists Domestic Help/Tenant Registration under Citizen Services on its website, and its Download Forms page carries a Domestic Help Verification Form (Delhi Police forms). The online application listed on the state services portal was marked "Service Under Modification" when we checked in October 2026 (serviceonline.gov.in), so be ready to use the downloadable form at your local police station.

What to keep ready for Delhi

    • The filled form, with your details as the employer.
    • A recent photograph of the worker.
    • Copies of her identity proof and both current and permanent address.
    • Names of people who can vouch for her.

Ask the station for an acknowledgement or receipt, and note the date you submitted.

Mumbai: the online Domestic Servant form

Mumbai Police has an online Domestic Servant form on its website (mumbaipolice.gov.in). It asks for the worker's full name, identification marks, native address, previous employment (employer's name, address, contact, period and reason for leaving) and on whose recommendation you hired her. In April 2024, Mumbai Police publicly urged residents to share their domestic help's details through this system (Mid-day, 27 April 2024).

Maharashtra Police's citizen portal also offers a downloadable Domestic Help Verification Form (citizen.mahapolice.gov.in), useful in other Maharashtra cities such as Pune or Nagpur.

Before you fill the Mumbai form

The form asks for previous employers and the person who recommended her. Collect those details properly first: names, addresses and phone numbers you have actually called. Filling in a number you never dialled defeats the purpose.

Bengaluru: Seva Sindhu and Karnataka State Police

In Karnataka, "Police Verification Certificate for Domestic Servants / House Keeping" is listed as a fully online service (National Government Services Portal). It is applied for through the state's Seva Sindhu portal, which shows eligibility, documents, fee and delivery time for each service before you apply (IBTimes India explainer). The Karnataka State Police website also points citizens to police verification, including domestic help verification (karnatakastatepolice.org).

    Steps in short

    • Open Seva Sindhu and go to Karnataka State Police services.
    • Choose the domestic servants / house keeping verification service and read the document list and fee shown.
    • Register with your mobile number or email and enter the OTP.
    • Fill in the details, upload documents and pay.
    • Track the application and keep the acknowledgement.

    Other cities

Most city police departments run something similar. Search your city police website for "domestic help verification" or "servant verification", or ask at the police station that covers your home. Ask which station handles it if she lives in a different area from you.

What to check yourself while verification runs

    1. Her identity documents

    • Take a copy of a photo ID such as Aadhaar, never the original.
    • UIDAI's Aadhaar QR scanner app can read the secure QR code on an Aadhaar card, which is digitally signed by UIDAI.
    • Note her full name exactly as printed. You will need the same spelling for police forms and any background check.

    2. Native address and family contact

    • Ask for her native village or town, district and a family member's number.
    • Call that number once in front of her. A short, friendly call is enough.

    3. References you have actually spoken to

    • At least two previous households, with area and phone numbers.
    • Ask: How long did she work for you? Why did she leave? Any issue with cash, keys or valuables? Would you hire her again?
    • If she came through a placement agency, ask the agency for its registration details, the worker's file and its replacement policy, in writing.

    4. Public court records

Police criminal records are not open to the public in India, but court cases are. An online check of public court records shows whether a name appears in cases, pending or disposed, anywhere in India. A match is a reason to talk, not a verdict. An old civil dispute and a pending theft case are very different, and an allegation is not a conviction.

    First-week safety habits

    • Keep jewellery, cash and documents locked; this protects her from suspicion too.
    • Agree house rules for visitors, phone use around children and who can enter.
    • If she will care for a baby or an elderly parent, be home for the first few days.
    • Save her number and her family contact; give her yours and an emergency number.
    • Pay on a fixed date, by UPI where possible, so there is a clear record for both of you.

    Treat her fairly

Verification is a safety step, not suspicion. Explain why you do it, keep her documents private, collect only what you need, and never share her ID in society or family WhatsApp groups. Return or destroy copies if she does not join.

How a fraudcheck.ai report fits in

A fraudcheck.ai report costs ₹199 and is ready in about 5 minutes. You need only her full name, her father's name (or husband's name if she is married) and the city she lives in. No Aadhaar, PAN, phone number or OTP, and she is never contacted or told.

    • Court cases across India from public records, pending and disposed, criminal or civil, matched on name, father's or husband's name and city.
    • News mentions that name her.
    • Public social profiles, if any.

It is not police verification, an ID check or a credit check, and it is no guarantee of anyone's character. It is the check you can run today, while police verification takes its course. Run a maid background check for ₹199 or see a sample report first.

    Frequently asked questions

Is police verification of a maid mandatory?

Rules differ by city. Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru police all offer a process for employers, and police departments encourage it. Check your city police website or ask at the local station. Even where it is not enforced, it is a sensible step for anyone working inside your home.

Can I do maid police verification online?

In Bengaluru, yes, through the Seva Sindhu portal. Mumbai Police has an online Domestic Servant form. In Delhi, the online service was under modification when we checked, so use the downloadable Domestic Help Verification Form at your police station.

What documents are needed for domestic help verification?

Usually a photo ID, current and permanent address proof, recent photographs and references. Each portal or form lists its exact requirements, so check before you go.

How long does police verification take?

It varies by city and station. That is why it helps to check references and public court records while you wait.

What if her husband's name is on her documents instead of her father's?

For a married woman, use her husband's name in a fraudcheck.ai search. Court records often list people as "wife of", so this improves matching.

Can I check a maid's criminal record online?

There is no public police database in India. You can check public court records, which show cases where a person is a party. Read any result carefully and ask her about it before deciding.

Before she starts on Monday, take five minutes to check her court records on fraudcheck.ai, and file the police verification the same day.
